Longtime Miramar College Employee Sam Shooshtary Passes Away

It is with great sadness and sense of loss that we share the news of the untimely passing of one of our colleagues, Sam Shooshtary, on December 31. Sam was a valued member of the EOPS/CARE/CalWORKs team since 2007. Prior to that assignment, he served as an Instructional Assistant from 2000-2007. Additionally, he served as a leader with Classified Senate for several years during his time at Miramar College.

Sam’s positive personality, sense of humor and commitment to students will be missed by the campus community, and especially those who have had the pleasure of working closely with him. We extend our condolences to his family, colleagues, and students. Sam was well-liked by all who knew him, and his contributions to the culture and community of Miramar cannot be overstated.

We understand how difficult this news can be for our college community. Please don't ignore how much and however this might affect you. Many knew Sam and his passing will have a shocking and deep impact; many others of us didn't know Sam, but the news of his sudden passing could trigger past experience with death.
